Schréder Together Fund helps the city of Lviv to keep traffic lights working during blackouts
The Schréder Together Fund has co-financed the delivery of four uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems for traffic lights in Lviv, Ukraine, ensuring that they continue to operate during blackouts. Established in 2021, the Schréder Together Fund, in cooperation with the King Baudouin Foundation, aims to help towns and cities worldwide protect vulnerable users and improve the quality of life in economically disadvantaged areas.
The equipment, which was manufactured by the Portuguese company C2C-NewCap, is currently being installed and tested at various intersections across the city. The UPS systems integrate C2C-NewCap’s lithium-ion battery module with solar panels to ensure uninterrupted operations, even during full power outages, thereby enhancing road safety.
The Lviv Bureau of European Integration initiated the request for support, appealing to its partners in the European network of innovative cities for help in identifying equipment capable of keeping traffic lights operational during full blackouts. In collaboration with Lvivavtodor, a municipal enterprise responsible for creating and maintaining high-quality infrastructure for Lviv residents' mobility, the team prepared a detailed technical specification and shared it with international partners.
Cascais Municipality and InnoEnergy responded to the appeal. The municipality provided funding and InnoEnergy identified start-ups that could meet the technical requirements of Lvivavtodor and develop equipment tailored to local conditions.
Schréder managed the logistics and the delivery of the equipment to Lviv, successfully concluding this phase of the key collaborative effort.
This collaboration lies at the heart of the Schréder Together Fund's mission to support the communities in which we live and operate by working with non-profit organisations, especially during challenging times.
